The Certified Veterinary Technician is an essential member of the Veterinary team. By providing skilled medical, technical and administrative assistance to the doctor throughout all phases of services. The Certified Veterinary Technician also plays a critical role in educating and communicating with pet parents.
Essential Job Functions
- Provide compassionate care to patients and prepare/maintain the exam rooms and treatment areas.
- Perform physical examinations. Records observations on patients.
- Assist the doctor in medical, surgical, and dental procedures.
- Assist the doctor in administering anesthesia; monitor patients during surgery and recovery.
- Give injections and administers oral medications in accordance with hospital policy.
- Perform clinical laboratory procedures such as fecal flotation exams, heartworm checks, skin scrapings, urinalysis, and fungal cultures.
- Performs physical exam; accurately counts heart, pulse rate, capillary refill time, mucous membranes, temperature, respiratory rate and Draw blood for lab analysis and maintains a file of lab test results.
- Utilize their ability to place peripheral intravenous catheter in cephalic vein.
- Take radiographs and administers EKGs and EEGs.
- Admit and discharges patients on the doctor's orders. Ensure that patients are well-groomed and in a medically appropriate state.
- Counsel clients on various aspects of animal care and explain the dosage/purpose of medications. Reinforce the proper care and procedures that should be followed at home.
- Make follow-up calls to clients.
- Properly cleans all surgical materials after they are used.

Qualifications
- Certified Veterinary Technician, 3+ year experience required
- Licensed individuals with a specialty in anesthesia and analgesia or a specialty in surgery would be preferred, but neither is required
- Proficiency in clinical skills, including anesthesia, radiography, and laboratory procedures.
- Works well in a team setting. Able to shift priorities in accordance with unexpected events.
- Remains calm and efficient during a medical crisis.
- Comfortable interacting with dogs and cats of all breeds and sizes.
- Reliable and dependable. Ability to work effectively in a team-oriented environment.
Education
- Certified Technicians Preferred
- High School Diploma or Equivalent required.
