Ocean State Veterinary Specialists along with Bay State Veterinary Emergency & Specialty Services are partnering with the United Veterinary Care Learning and Development (L&D) team to offer an exceptional training opportunity for veterinary technicians. This unique training program will include customized online learning content, case discussions with both board-certified anesthesiologists and technicians with VTS in ECC/SX, hands on demonstrations and labs, along with one-on-one patient care training. This in-depth training will afford any knowledgeable and ambitious veterinary technician the chance to become a top-notch anesthetist! Position Overview:
The anesthesia technician performs monitoring of anesthetized patients for a variety of specialty services. From stable patients having elective diagnostic procedures, to critical patients undergoing lifesaving surgery, anesthetists must be proficient in advanced monitoring and responsive to patient needs. The anesthesia technician is a role where a technician can maintain autonomy and learn and develop high level skills related to anesthesia and nursing care. These technicians work closely with the surgeons and the ECC department to provide the best patient outcomes.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities:
- Evaluate and appropriately assess patient anesthetic risks and anticipate needs
- Administration of medications, fluids, continuous rate infusions, analgesics, and blood products when necessary
- Calculate medication doses and fluid boluses
- Intravenous catheter placement, anesthetic induction, and endotracheal intubation
- Use of advanced monitoring equipment, understanding of patient parameters, and appropriate responses and interventions to stabilize and maintain patient under proper plane of anesthesia
- Proper use of anesthetic ventilator, rebreathing, and nonrebreathing systems
- Post-anesthetic patient care
Qualifications:
- Minimum 2 years recent experience in veterinary practice with a focus in surgery and anesthesia
- Veterinary Technician Certification is preferred
- High school diploma or GED
- Excellent interpersonal communications skills
- Compassion and love of animals
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Strong veterinary knowledge and skills
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team
- Ability to prioritize and multitask
- Ability to maintain composure in stressful situations

OSVS is located in East Greenwich, RI and has just completed an expansion to the original building and now is a 35,000-sf emergency and specialty referral hospital. OSVS has a very busy emergency service, a nationally respected internship and residency program, and specialists in Emergency/Critical Care, Internal Medicine, Surgery, Radiology, Cardiology, Neurology, Oncology, Ophthalmology, and Avian/Exotics. Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, fluoroscopy, and MRI.
BSVESS is located just 30 minutes away in Swansea, MA. BSVESS has just moved into a completely renovated 36,000-sf facility. Like OSVS, the new BSVESS has dedicated areas for emergency and specialty services. Current specialties include Internal Medicine, Emergency/Critical Care, Surgery, Medical and Radiation Oncology. Future specialties to include Cardiology, Radiology, and more! Specialized equipment includes telemetry, endoscopy, CT scanner, ultrasound, and linear accelerator.
